Why stay in Riverton?
I get asked that question all the time.
The answer is simple…Riverton is a gem of a village. Reminiscent of an era long ago, it possesses an atmosphere of quiet solitude not found in many communities with similar proximity to major metropolitan areas.

Riverton was first settled (founded) around 1850 as a resort for wealthy Philadelphians to spend their summer months along the banks of the Delaware River. The original steamboat landing has been restored and remains as one of the country's oldest active yacht clubs, where in summer, you can stroll along the banks of the river and watch the sailboats racing on the Delaware. Riverton Borough is on the National Historic Register and stands today as a true example of early country living in the 19th century.

The house itself was built in 1851 and was once the home of Mary VanMeter Grice, one of the founding members of the New Jersey State Congress of Mothers, which later became known as the Parent Teachers Association. She was also active locally, founding the Historic Porch Club women's association in Riverton, which is still flourishing today.

The area has much more history to explore when you come and stay with us. The house itself is situated right across the street from the RiverLINE light rail train station that can take you to Philadelphia in just 22 minutes, or north to Trenton with a change to NJ Transit train to New York City in just a couple of hours.
